Send KashFlow invoice permalinks to your clients

We have clients who ring up to explain that the reason why they are late paying invoices is that they have 'cough' lost them. Keen to remove that particular excuse we are thinking up a way of sending clients a link to a single invoice or even a link to ALL their invoices which can be bookmarked for future reference.

As dedicated users of KashFlow we can easily email invoices to clients, even from a phone, so it never takes us long to remind clients of their debts. KashFlow doesn't yet support a way of sending clients a 'permalink' where they can go fetch a copy of their invoices on demand. We are building a simple solution that is completely secure and will provide just such a service.

Is this secure?

Our requirements are as follows:

  • Provide a secure way of using a 3rd party service to access KashFlow's API
  • Remove any necessity to store KashFlow credentials on our server
  • Allow creation of a link to a single invoice
  • Allow creation of a link to all invoices for a customer
  • Allow creation of a link to all unpaid invoices for a customer

We are going to deliver this by using a URL containing the KashFlow username, password, invoice number or client ID (and optionally paid / unpaid) filter secured using 128-bit encryption. This uses the same technology and security level that you find in SSL (secure web sites) and means we can filter and use KashFlow credentials without any requirement to store them. The resulting link would look a bit like:

All invoices for client XYZ

http://permalink.goldfigure.co.uk/kashflow.aspx?ID=f547af085428923de3d378d775668021

Try and reverse that into our KashFlow details! We will of course share our code and get the guys over at KashFlow to give it their blessing from a security point of view.

How can I use the service?

We will launch the service in January. Sign-up will be free but after a free trial period we expect to charge a nominal monthly fee to use the service (~£2 / month).

We would love to hear from you if you think this is a service you'd like to use. The first 5 people to reply will get a year's use for free.
