Save money sending documents by post

At GoldFigure we deal mainly with email communication. Occasionally though we have to send letters in the post, mainly when a customer prefers paper invoices. A while ago we were pointed in the direction of PDQit.com which is an ingenious 'print to post' solution. Using it is simple. Just open your application (Word, Excel, Kashflow accounts) and when you File > Print... you'll find the PDQit virtual print driver. The document will show in preview (where you can ensure that the address is going to print in the right place for the envelope window) and one-click later the letter is in a queue and will be posted the same day.

PDQit delivers us a number of advantages:

  • Cost reduction (a single page letter printed, shoved in an envelope and delivered is 34p)
  • Never buy stamps... can't even remember the last time we had to do that!
  • Never buy printed stationery or envelopes.
  • Send mail from anywhere there is an internet connection (often we spend time on the train catching up with invoicing).
  • All our letters are printed to a professional quality... we just use a lower quality inkjet printer in the office for the very little print we do.

Until this week our office computers were using Vista / XP but this week we started our upgrade to Windows 7. Sadly the PDQit printer driver doesn't install the required virtual printer (and doesn't give warnings as to why). I've raised it with them so wait eagerly for their response.

PDQit gadget rating: 8/10
