Are we in 2010? Binatone are still in the 90's
A while back I bought a Binatone i2120 usb handset that I could use with Skype. It's slim enough to fit in my laptop bag and means when I am working from home / client office, etc I have a usable telephone handset. Having recently swapped my laptop I needed the Binatone Internet Phone driver / application so that it would work properly with Skype. I didn't have the driver CD on me so off I toddled to binatone.com to download the software but I couldn't find it there, or anywhere else via Google...
Unbelievably I couldn't find the driver anywhere on the internet via Google. It seems to be specific to that handset so only available via Binatone.
I phoned Binatone support was passed around between baffled departments who wondered why I would want to download a driver. I offered that, although a little backwards, they could email me instead. I spent nearly 40 minutes on the phone so was glad that in anticipation of a long wait I used Skype hands free over my 3G connection while I enjoyed the sun on my deck-come-home-office and did some proper work. Eventually the definitive answer came back that the only way I could get the driver from Binatone was for them to order me a driver CD... 5-7 days delivery.
In 2010 I expect to get hold of a driver at any time, from anywhere. The time Binatone spent trying to find me a CD would easily have cost them many times the profit they made selling the hardware in the first place. Will they ever learn?
I volunteered to host the driver for them, because it was convenient to me. I already emailed Binatone to confirm that they are not going to chase me for illegal distribution of their software... with no reply I am benefiting the greater good and you will find the driver attached here. Should Binatone bother to reply and object then I will remove it immediately.
